4 Simple Tips for Swoon-Worthy Copy

1) Best foot forward

Get to the point. Are you offering a discount? Snazzy new product? Put the juiciest news right up top. There are few things more painful than business copy that feels like a long lunch with Great Aunt Bertha (Love ya Berthie!)

This is not the time to save up your news for a Big Finish (jazz hands!), most people are only scanning, so you need to start every sentence with the sexiest stuff you have to offer.

2) Show a little leg (so to speak.)

Believe it or not, people want to know you! So it's important to find your voice.

There’s a lot of noise right now about ‘authenticity’- but how do we actually convey that?

First up- choose language that feels natural and sincere. How would you write this if you were sharing it in the group chat? How would you explain it to your Nan? Play around! Get weird with it!

You’ll know when you’ve found it because the words will come more freely, you’ll feel like you. (and what could be better?)

Without this, copy can feel a bit soulless. It's much easier for people to connect to a brand when they can feel the face behind it. And connection = commitment.

3) Proofread. Again. Then again.

Nothing like the pang of spotting an error after you’ve already clicked publish. Or not spotting it at all!

You can't just rely on spellcheck. A good rule of thumb is go and do something else, then read over it with fresh eyes. Read it backward. Say each word aloud. Then swap with a mate and read each other's.

(Hot tip- if you’re writing to a single client- get their name right! Like, every letter. In the right order. Game changing. The Raffaele’s and Saoirse’s of this world will thank you.)

4) Call to Action

Make sure you set a clear intention for all communication you share, and wrap it up with a simple call to action that points back to your purpose. Don’t forget a link.

Now if you squint your eyes and look very closely I’ll demonstrate this right now with a live-action real example of my own (wow)...
